At the age of seventy-seven, Miss Mary, the namesake for Miss Mary’s Greenhouse, received diagnoses for a number of chronic medical conditions that needed immediate attention. Her prognosis included hypertension, lipid disorder (high cholesterol), high triglycerides, gout and severe shortness of breath. Her physician prescribed medications to address the high cholesterol and hypertension. Due to the severity, I did not think the medication would address the situation timely or completely.
Upon hearing this devastating news, I knew I had to intervene and assume responsibility for reversing these serious, life-threatening illnesses. I started buying all of her food so that I could monitor her food intake. I cannot take all of the credit though because she was completely on board and committed to making the necessary changes to her diet and lifestyle.
Prior to the diagnosis, she had not eaten beef or pork products for over 15 years, but that was not enough. I started making her Nutrient Dense Green Juice Blends that were loaded with fresh vegetables, fresh fruit and herbs. We embarked on a journey to make major dietary changes that included eliminating sugar, white rice, white bread, white potatoes, white iodized salt and dairy. We replaced sugar with agave, white rice with wild rice, iodized salt with Himalayan pink salt and regular dairy with coconut milk and hemp seed milk. During this transition, she lost her taste for poultry and seafood.
She essentially made these dietary changes, lifestyle changes and did not return to old eating habits. The before and after picture is one year after the journey began. Her physicians were utterly bewildered and would often tell her to continue because her health was steadily improving and the pounds were steadily disappearing. Those comments amongst many others was just the encouragement she needed.
It is never too late to make lifestyle changes. Miss Mary was able to do it at the age of seventy-seven and so can you! Today is a great day to start.
